De titel van Goethes beroemde roman Die Wahlverwandtschaften is ontleend aan een chemische reactie waarbij bepaalde stoffen zijn geneigd onder specifieke omstandigheden een verbinding met elkaar aan te gaan.
In deze Vishal ledententoonstelling hebben de kunstenaars zelf onderling naar een affiniteit met andere leden gezocht. Hieruit zijn groepjes van drie kunstenaars ontstaan. In een aantal gevallen doet een kunstenaar mee aan twee van zulke samenstellingen en ontstaat er een aaneenschakeling van vijf kunstwerken. Dan gaat er, als het ware, een chemische kettingreactie ontstaan.
De verwantschap kan meerdere aspecten hebben: qua vorm, inhoud, werkwijze, techniek of mentaliteit. Een ingelijst statement op A4 formaat bij iedere combinatie duidt de samenhang.
In deze opzet kan de beschouwer zelf op zoek gaan naar de overeenkomsten en zal langer bij de afzonderlijke werken stilstaan, wat de tentoonstelling een meerwaarde geeft.
